Susso is a collaborative project between members of the Mandinka people of Gambia, and the UK producer bassist Huw Bennet. Initially travelling with the aim of gaining perspective as a musician and to discover a new world of music first hand, Huw found himself humbled by a welcoming community of artists, mostly belonging to the celebrated Suso and Kuyateh griot families. The beat and jazz scene of South East London undoubtedly influences the music produced, but through Huw's conscientious approach, the traditional sound of the Mandinka Balafon and Kutiringding drum amongst others are treated with respect and retain a true Gambian aesthetic.
